Cathryne is an award-winning NYC based director and producer who got her start making pictures with her father in a homemade darkroom at home in Michigan. Her work largely focuses on women’s issues and she’s a committed member of the New York female filmmaking community. SCREW YOU CANCER, her award-winning doc series for Condé Nast Entertainment, was the first digital series to receive a prestigious Television Academy Honor, recognizing the power of television to bring awareness to important social issues.
In 2010 Cathryne started the production company Salted Media, through which she has directed and produced a variety of content for notable brands including: Vogue, Teen Vogue, Glamour, Elle, GQ, Vanity Fair, Verizon, Bon Apétit, Golf Digest, Patrón, Porsche, Pandora, Shinola, and Tampax.
Cathryne directed the feature documentary A GIRL AND A GUN (First Run Features/Films Transit International) that premiered at the 2012 DOC NYC film festival before a theatrical run. Recently she completed ONCE UPON A TIME IN UGANDA, an adventure documentary about Uganda’s gonzo action movie studio Wakaliwood.
She has received recognition from the Television Academy, New York State Council for the Arts, Chicken & Egg Pictures, NYWIFT, Fork Films, Paley Center for Media, IFP, Toronto Documentary Forum, among others. She earned a BA in International Relations at NYU’s College of Arts and Sciences, and an MFA in photography and video at the School of Visual Arts.
